The Deep Pool 9 mins : Short Drama : 2003
Mystical anecdote set in an evocative wilderness where a mysterious force comes to the aid of a man in crisis.
Award acceptance speech:
'The Deep Pool was my first foray into digital film technology. I carried the idea with me for about seven years, after officially exiting the Australian Film Industry, and was inspired to finally tell the story when a relative offered me access to his digital production equipment. I had very little in the way
of production crew, no budget to speak of, and worked with the vagaries of natural settings and
synchronistic weather conditions. One day of shooting between tempestuously stormy bouts of rain
resulted in one of the most commented-on moments in the film, where light travels down the long vista of an empty dirt road. I aimed to emphasise the post-production values, true to my early years of training in post production, and gave as much attention to the sound editing and music score as one would with a big budget feature.'
